We have progressed…

…from tissue packets to this:

maybe it’s the rainy weather.

This picture was taken at the SMU Kopitiam during lunchtime. The jokers are not students, some staff possibly from a nearby office, which explains the need for umbrellas.

*Updates:
Charu spotted this before. It’s the new trend!

Gordon says, “It’s a sign!”
So can you interpret what the special formation means?
i think that.. at the time they got there, the group of 6 was such that 2 of them were walking in front talking to each other, and the other 4 were just behind talking they approached from the far end of the table as seen from the camera then the two in front walked to the far end from them, and quickly put their umbrellas down
while the other 4 slowly took their time, saw that the 2 umbrellas were on the far table already, and just decided to be lazy and put them all on the near table so they don’t have to walk there and back again
oiyingella lamae:: wow
oiyingella lamae:: frm tt u have estimated their course of action
that’s just a guess lah =p
oiyingella lamae:: can u think of how the umbrellas look when they sit down eating?
won’t they just lean them against the table when they get back?
haha but that makes me think of something
i think when they get back to the table, whoever gets back first is gonna have a hard time
cause there’s not enough space on the table to put down his tray properly; its all blocked by umbrellas
but then you need both hands to hold the tray
so how is he going to get the umbrellas out of the way?
i think there’s only one possible way, which is dangerous if it is crowded
oiyingella lamae:: hahaha
oiyingella lamae:: throw the tray up and remove umbrella then catch it in time?
lol! no.. that’s only possible if your name is neo or peter parker
oiyingella lamae:: so wat would be the possible way? kick it off?
oiyingella lamae:: hahaha
hahaa!! that’s for jackie chan and bruce lee
nope no need to use legs, or throw anything
oiyingella lamae:: balance tray on head
hahahahaha!!!
that’s only possible for a very small percentage of our population =p
oiyingella lamae:: then wat? try pushing the umbrella off inch by inch with tongue?
haha! nope..
just using your two hands
no need for anything else
oiyingella lamae:: put tray on another table and remove the umbrellas
but if you choped this table, most likely there won’t be another table free nearby right?
no need for another table
oiyingella lamae:: actually there are other tables available
oiyingella lamae:: then put on chair la
ok that’s one way i didn’t think of
but that’s still more dangerous and difficult than what i’m thinking of
oiyingella lamae:: hold tray with one hand and remove umbrella
close.. but still not quite there yet
oiyingella lamae:: put tray on edge of table, hold with one hand, the other hand push umbrella in while first hand push tray in
yes!!
oiyingella lamae:: chey
hahaha

Heartbreak

Watched a documentary on Arts Central last night, forgot the title exactly but it’s something like “Heartbreak”, about how emotional pain affects people.

They did a little MRI scan on the brain using a few people and sort of showed that emotional pain actually stimulates the same region in the brain as physical pain.

The more interesting experiment though, was one where they wanted to find out how important human contact was to people. A girl volunteered to be the subject and she was put in an apartment to isolate her from other people while her twin continued on their usual social life. She had no TV, no phone, absolutely no human contact. She can’t see people or talk to people, even the windows face an alley and a brick wall so she absolutely can’t see anyone. Cameras were placed around the apartment to observe her behaviour. Assessments were also made on the sisters’ psychological health and verbal ability before the experiment.

She will try to stay as many days as possible in the room.

On the first day, she was perfectly fine, happy and optimistic that she could easily survive a week in it. Boredom started kicking in on the second day but she still tried to occupy herself with the items she had in the room – guitar, books, paint…

After 3 days, she started getting a little off. She becomes withdrawn and does not speak to the camera as she did before. Insomnia kicked in and she becomes very troubled with lack of sleep. In the later days, she started doing weird things like overturning the furniture and randomly dropping tissue paper around the room.

Eventually, after 6 days, she gave up. She packed up and left the apartment. On the streets, she is happily surrounded by people and becomes hysterical, smiling and giggling.

When she was put through the same psychological and verbal tests as those before the 6 days, she couldn’t stop giggling and laughing at everything, while her twin responded pretty much normally. She was too busy laughing to do as well as she did before the 6 days at the verbal test.

Well, the experiment cannot be conclusive and perhaps not enough controls were in place. Maybe the behaviour wasn’t exactly due to isolation alone, probably boredom has a part to play in it.

But whatever the reason, it sure was pretty scary to see how a happy healthy girl could become if left alone for a few days.
